Care

Panther chameleon care, the essentials.

A compact version of the care guidance we give every customer. Nothing here replaces the one-on-one support that comes with your chameleon — it's a starting point, not a substitute.

Enclosure

  • All-screen cages — no glass or acrylic sides.
  • Babies: 16x16x29 up to 18x18x36 (LxWxH).
  • Adult male panther: 24x24x48 minimum; adult female: 18x18x36.
  • One chameleon per cage. Panthers are solitary — do not house together.

Lighting & heating

  • Linear UVB (e.g. Zoomed Reptisun 5.0) across the top of the cage.
  • A basking site at 80–90°F; adjust bulb wattage by season.
  • A clear gradient top-to-bottom in the cage.
  • Natural, unfiltered sunlight whenever weather allows.

Water & humidity

  • Panthers drink from leaves, never standing water.
  • Mist at least 3× daily; use a dripper for a few hours each day.
  • An automated misting system is the single best upgrade you can make.
  • Target 60–80% humidity for panther chameleons.

Food

  • Crickets and silkworms as the daily staple.
  • Rotate treats: mealworms, superworms, waxworms, hornworms, roaches, flies.
  • Gut-load feeders well before offering them.
  • Avoid wild bugs unless you know the source is pesticide-free.

Supplements

  • Calcium + D3 twice a week for young fast-growing chameleons.
  • Vitamins once per week for growers; twice a month for adults.
  • Lightly dust feeders before offering — don't drown them in powder.
  • Metabolic bone disease is preventable, not reversible.

Interior design

  • Live plants are not optional — Ficus, Pothos, Dwarf Umbrella all work.
  • Mix branches and vines at a range of heights for climbing.
  • Skip plastic plants; cloth vines are fine as filler.
  • Keep cages out of sight of other animals (including other chameleons).

One more thing

Chameleons are display animals.

They're not a hands-on pet. Minimal handling, a thoughtful cage, consistent husbandry — do those three things and a captive-bred panther from Chameleon Paradise will reward you with years of color and personality.

Every chameleon that leaves us comes with free, lifetime support. If something looks off — a slow shed, a change in appetite, unusual posture — send a photo. We'd rather hear about it on day two than month two.
